How to Play Hearts: Rules for Hearts Card Game
- Deal all cards to 4 players
- Pass 3 cards left, right, or across (alternating each hand)
- Player with 2 of clubs leads first trick
- Follow suit if possible; if not, play any card
- Highest card of led suit wins trick
- Hearts can’t be led until “broken” (usually by playing a heart when unable to follow suit)
- Avoid taking hearts (1 point each) and Queen of Spades (13 points)
- Game ends when one player reaches 100 points
- Lowest score wins
- “Shooting the moon”: Taking all hearts and Queen of Spades results in 26 points for all other players
Hearts is a trick-avoidance game that combines strategy and luck.
