7 Months Pregnant: Symptoms, Baby (& Belly) Size and Development
At 7 months pregnant, you’re well into your third trimester, and your baby is growing rapidly. Here’s what you can expect:
Baby’s Development:
- Length: About 14-15 inches
- Weight: Approximately 2-3 pounds
- Your baby’s hearing is fully developed
- Eyes can open and close
- Brain growth is accelerating
- Lungs are maturing but not fully functional yet
Belly Size:
Your uterus is now about 2.5 inches above your navel. You’ve likely gained between 15-22 pounds total.
Common Symptoms:
- Backache: As your belly grows, your center of gravity shifts, causing strain on your back.
- Braxton Hicks contractions: These “practice” contractions prepare your body for labor.
- Shortness of breath: Your growing uterus pushes against your diaphragm, making breathing more difficult.
- Frequent urination: The baby’s weight puts pressure on your bladder.
- Swelling: Especially in feet and ankles due to fluid retention.
- Heartburn and indigestion: The growing uterus pushes on your stomach.
- Insomnia: Finding a comfortable sleeping position becomes challenging.
Tips for Comfort:
- Use a pregnancy pillow for better sleep
- Practice good posture to alleviate back pain
- Stay hydrated but reduce fluid intake before bedtime
- Wear comfortable, supportive shoes
- Engage in gentle exercises like prenatal yoga or swimming
Important To-Dos:
- Continue regular prenatal check-ups
- Finalize your birth plan
- Start preparing your home for the baby’s arrival
- Consider taking childbirth classes if you haven’t already
Remember, every pregnancy is unique. If you have concerns about your symptoms or baby’s development, always consult your healthcare provider.
